Collaborative Convening 2018
Summer and Extended Learning
Seeks to understand and improve out of school time opportunities to get all students to be meaningfully engaged in learning both in and out of school.

Our work is focused on giving families comprehensive information on high-quality before and after-school programming.
In 2017, we created a matrix of after-school care programs and summer camps offered by organizations with a view to helping BSD Family Support Center and school administrative staff refer and/or assist families to register for programs and access appropriate scholarship aid. This was updated in 2018.
Currently, we are working on a common scholarship application form with three organizations, who are collaborative members. Our goal is to streamline the process and ensure families in need are aware of scholarship opportunities. Another focus is on developing a list of afterschool care sites.
A noteworthy achievement for our collaborative was when a select group of collaborative members received a Best Starts for Kids grant that focuses on providing access to afterschool and summer camp programs for children of families experiencing homelessness (McKinney/Vento families).
Audience Questions
How are foster students being served?
We have not created a campaign to specifically reach out to foster students at this time. Currently, we have been focusing on whole systems practices.
Are you looking into supporting students with learning disorders, ADHD, autism, SPD, etc.?
Students with learning disorders, ADHD, autism, and SPD, are welcome and participate in many of our summer and out-of-school time programs. However, we are not doing proactive outreach campaigns for these students at this time.
We are interested in reaching underserved students groups, and both of these questions give us a lot to think about moving forward.
