Collaborative Convening 2018
Data Council
Ensures that the partnership is using data strategically and across organizations to support the success of every child. It serves as a decision-making body and hands-on working group for the partnership on matters of data connection, access, and use.
Phoebe Sade Anderson (Child Care Resources) and Jolynn Kenney (Big Brothers Big Sisters)
First and foremost the Data Council’s purpose is to help the Eastside Pathways Partnership’s focus on data so that we can ultimately achieve our five stated goals. We’re doing that in two specific ways. The first is that we are looking at our current data on the goal areas and are working on recommendations on targets including dates. The second, which is related to the first, is that we are working on how to best support the collaboratives in data practices, so the work at that level is informed by data and evidence.
We are currently working with School Readiness and Career Pathways collaboratives to understand their current measures, strategically look at data flows, give recommendations and consider additional measures related to achieving their goals, and understand how best we can support them so that their work is informed by data and evidence to achieve their collaborative goals.
It’s important to be critical and ask the really challenging question even if you are in the middle of a campaign or a project – being able to stop and say what data point am I trying to move with this and if I haven’t identified that is there a place to pause and figure out how to measure this and what is driving this and what is my goal or outcome.
Audience Question
About collecting data around our goals – we get data around student behaviors like graduating, but we aren’t yet collecting data on system changes. Can we start?
There are two reasons why Eastside Pathways exists, 1) to ensure that ALL children and youth succeed, cradle to career, and 2) to change the way the community works together to create better systems to support all children. To ensure we’re “moving the needle” in both areas, we track currently track academic outcomes for children and youth. To track progress on systems change we look to the Theory of Change developed by StriveTogether (attached). To date, we have made significant progress, and we still have work to do. In the future, when we’re able to garner the capacity, we’d like to develop a measurement on how individual partners are doing as it relates to the work in the Eastside Pathways partnership.
